Stained Glass Overlay (SGO)
This process was developed in the USA nearly 30 years ago and has been used in New Zealand since 1987. The technique enables us to create a piece to your design by applying lead and our specially developed colour films*, to a single solid sheet of glass. As we use a solid sheet of glass, it means the glass can be toughened and also incorporated into double glazed units.
Design-wise we can pretty much create whatever you like onto glass using SGO. From traditional lead light designs to detailed and complicated picture windows and everything in between. The SGO system is a versatile, practical and efficient alternative to traditional lead light construction.
*The UV barriers in SGO our product have been especially developed in the Southern Hemisphere to withstand this demanding climate. Visit www.sgonz.co.nz for more info.
Traditional Lead Light Construction
A centuries old process that has proved to be extremely adaptable. Traditional lead light windows are constructed with the lead came holding separate pieces of glass together into a particular design. As this technique uses different pieces of glass, often of different colours and usually of different thicknesses the finished pieces almost twinkle as the light refracts through them.
If you are lucky enough to have traditional lead light windows in your home already we can offer repairs and maintenance as required. We also repair lead light glass in china cabinets and other furniture.
Sand Blast Etching
Sand blast etching is perhaps a more subtle form of decoration. This can provide privacy and is deal for corporate branding. We can also produce illustrative pieces using this technique. As with SGO, we can use toughened glass for this technique making it safe for entranceways and bathrooms and it can also be incorporated into double glazed units.
Recently, we have produced some art pieces by sand blast etching onto coloured glass, which we think look amazing.
Art Glass Work
Using a variety of processes and media we are able to create totally unique art glass pieces. Hot glass, kiln work and jet cutting can all be combined with our lead light, stained glass overlay and sand blasting processes to build wall art that will look incredible when backlit. We are also willing to look at larger installation work.
What can we do for you?
Design and Application Consultation
There are so many possibilities when creating decorative glass that we always consult with our customers before proceeding to design and quote stage. We are happy to meet with you at your home (or where the glass is to be used) to discuss your requirements. Our initial consultation is free in the Greater Auckland Area.
For lead light repairs we can offer a speedy estimate via email, if we can see a photo of the piece damaged and its dimensions (height x width.)
